About

Tracy Fillion is a textile artist based in Nelson, British Columbia, whose practice centres on weaving and plant dyeing. Drawing inspiration from her natural surroundings, Tracy creates functional, utilitarian textiles through slow and intentional processes rooted in care for materials and place.

With over twenty years of experience working with fibre and cloth, Tracy teaches weaving at Kootenay Studio Arts and is actively engaged in strengthening regional textile communities. She volunteers on the boards of the West Kootenay Fibreshed and the Slocan Valley Threads Guild, contributing to collaborative efforts that support craft education and local fibre systems.

Her work is shaped by an interest in where materials come from and how textiles move through their full life cycle—from fibre production and natural dyeing to weaving, sewing, and repair. Tracy is drawn to processes that are hands-on, attentive, and responsive to the landscapes she lives and works within.

Through workshops, intensive courses, mentoring, and community partnerships, Tracy offers inclusive, hands-on learning experiences for beginners through advanced makers. Her teaching focuses on building technical confidence, encouraging curiosity, and fostering connection between people, materials, and place.
